International Women's Day--Every Mother Counts

Today for International Women's Day I'd like to share an organization that is doing wonderful work for women across the world. It's Every Mother Counts founded by Christy Turlington Burns after her own difficulties with childbirth made her realize how she might have died had she not had access to the proper care.

Their goal as stated on the organization's website:
"Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal mortality reduction globally." Please visit, learn about what they're doing and donate if you can.

When I think of my own personal birth experiences, there were moments in the first and last when the outcome could have been different had I been in a country lacking health care and medical supplies. For each of my friends with children there is a similar story and I'm sure you will have no problem thinking of your own.

Are you already familiar with this organization?

Here's to women everywhere; doing it all with grace, passion and style.

  2. What a wonderful organization. Thank you for raising awareness! As someone who lived a long time without health care, it is something that I don't ever take for granted!

  3. What a great International Womens Day post, I'm off to visit their website, from what you've written, it sounds like a great organisation. To celebrate we went to a memorial lecture where Dame Carol Kidu was talking about maternal health in Papua New Guinea. It was so inspirational to hear about her work :)

It makes my day to read your comments. They're an answer to my floating words in blogland.
